Helical Pile FAQ

Straight answers on helical piles, documentation, Florida soils, and how Precision Piling works with general contractors and structural engineers. We don’t do repair, and we don’t take homeowner work that didn’t come through a GC or engineer.

What are helical piles?

Helical piles (also called helical piers or screw piles) are steel shafts with engineered helical plates welded to them. They’re installed by screwing them into the ground with hydraulic equipment until they reach load-bearing soil, then load-tested and connected to the structure’s foundation as screw pile foundations for new construction.

How are helical piles different from driven timber piles?

Driven piles are hammered into the ground based on assumed soil conditions. Helical piles are screwed in, and their capacity is verified in real time by monitoring installation torque, so you know what each pile can carry before you build on it, not after.

Do you do foundation repair on existing homes?

No. Precision Piling installs new-construction and pre-construction foundations only. If you have a settling or damaged existing foundation, we can point you toward a qualified repair contractor.

Do you work directly with homeowners?

All of our work comes through a licensed general contractor or structural engineer. That keeps engineering, permitting, and liability aligned the way they should be on a construction project.

What documentation do we get for our project?

Every pile installed gets a torque-and-depth record showing it met the engineered design load. That record goes to your GC and engineer of record as part of project closeout.

How do helical piles perform in Florida’s soil conditions?

Florida’s coastal sand, expansive clay, and karst limestone don’t offer consistent bearing capacity near the surface. Helical piles bypass that unstable layer and anchor into deeper, competent soil, which is why they’re increasingly the standard for new construction across the state.

Can you install foundations for homes in FEMA flood zones?

Yes. FEMA flood zone foundation piles for elevated new-construction homes in Florida are one of our core applications. Pile depth and spacing are designed around your engineer’s flood-elevation requirements.

Do you handle house lifting?

No. The lift itself is performed by a licensed house-lifting contractor. We come in as a helical pier subcontractor to install the new pile foundation the structure lands on once it’s raised or relocated.

What’s your service area?

All of Florida. We are a statewide helical pile installer working with general contractors and structural engineers on new-construction helical pile installation.

Does installation slow down our schedule?

The opposite. Helical piles install fast, need no concrete cure time, and can be loaded immediately, which is why GCs use them to keep a tight schedule moving.

Are helical piles code-approved?

Yes. Helical pile systems are commonly evaluated under ICC-ES acceptance criteria for helical foundation systems, and every pile we install is load-tested to confirm it meets your engineer’s design requirements.

How is a project priced?

Pricing is based on engineered load capacity, pile depth, soil conditions, and site access, not a flat per-pile rate. Request a quote and we’ll walk your project against the engineering.

How do you qualify new GC relationships?

We’re glad to go through your standard subcontractor prequalification: licensing, insurance, bonding, and references. Most GCs test us on a smaller job first, and we’re fine with that.
